Omilani berates Tinubu over remarks on Jonathan

Elder statesman and senator in the botched third republic, Senator Olayinka Omilani, has condemned a statement credited to the national leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, in which he alleged that monies under the watch of former President Goodluck Jonathan “grew feet and ran faster than the Jamaican world sprinter, Usain Bolt.”
Omilani, who described Tinubu as “being corrupt”, said Jonathan was better compared to the APC leader, urging Nigerians to disregard whatever he (Tinubu) said on corruption allegations against the former president.
He said, “Don’t mind Tinubu; and people keep saying Jonathan, Jonathan. Is he (Tinubu) a saint? Does he want to claim innocence when it comes to matters of corruption? As far as I am concerned, and many Nigerians would agree with me, Tinubu is not innocent on issues of corruption in this country. I know him very well.
“You can imagine someone whose son died barely a month ago jumping from one place to the other, in front of cameras. This is not our ideal as a Yoruba nation.”
Reacting to the report by the senate committee on police affairs, which alleged that former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan used the police as a political tool against perceived political opponents to win elections for their party, the octogenarian described Obasanjo as “someone who does not oppress.”
The accusation came following the suspension of security details attached to the Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano, ahead of the governorship election in the
state.
“It is not acceptable; Obasanjo is not that kind of person that would want to oppress. Obasanjo never did that to any governor; he does not consider such a thing,” Omilani defended.
He said denying a governor his security detail by the President was not necessarily an indication that such a governor would lose an election.
“Is Obiano going to win the election because of security details? That won’t guarantee a win or loss.
“Presidents do what they think is right because you don’t know what is going to come tomorrow. It is not that they will make forceful moves to throw the governors out of their position. Obasanjo, on his part, used to call for questioning when they (the governors) misbehave,” Omilani recalled.
