Oshoala re-affirms role model plans for female football

Arsenal Ladies of London forward, Asisat Oshoala, has reaffirmed her intention to be a good role model to female footballers in Nigeria, after she was unveiled as face of 2016 Women Federation Cup in Lagos.
The Falcons’ star, who spoke from London, said she was overwhelmed with excitement and humbled, saying that it is her dream to motivate up-coming female football stars with her involvement in female football at the national level.
“I am prepared to join hands with the Nigerian Football Federation, NFF, to rekindle the passion of the Women Federation Cup,” she said.
The proposed final of the Women Federation Cup is billed to come up between her former club, Rivers Angels and Bayelsa Queens on a yet to be disclosed date.
Speaking on the face of Women Federation Cup, the Chief Executive Officer of Hotsports, media partner of Oshoala, Mr Taye Ige, said Oshoala decided to take up the responsibility when she noticed the steady decline in all areas of the women football league.
“The competition, which is a platform for celebration of female football and discovery of hitherto unknown players to feed our national team, has dwindled in perception and consequently failed to hold on to existing sponsorships or attract new ones.
The result is that the competition hassolely been financed by the NFF from its meagre resources, he said.”
