Osun police nab cyber fraudster for swindling American lover of US$80,000

For pretending to a relationship-seeking American male citizen as a woman and duping him of the sum of 80,000 dollars, a suspected Nigerian internet fraudster , Femi Agbolade, has been arrested by the police in Osun State.
Parading Agbolade among other suspects on Monday, the state Commissioner of Police, Olafimihan Adeoye, said that the suspect pretended to be a woman and was using a female picture to deceive his victim on social media while the alleged fraud lasted.
Adeoye explained that the suspect was arrested after a tip off by a Nigerian, urging other citizens to always release any useful information that could help in ridding the state of criminal activities.
He decried the rate at which young people now engage in internet fraud and noted that it showed that the youths were not ready to work again but only seeking quick means to get rich.
The police boss also explained that because of the increased rate of cultism in the state, the police had organised an anti-cultism special squad, which would work to reduce the rate of cultism.
Speaking with our correspondent, the suspect denied collecting 80,000 dollars from the victim, claiming, “I only collected 43,000 dollars.”
According to the suspect, he had been in the illegal business since 2015.
Meanwhile, others suspects paraded included a gang of three led by a 23-year-old Shefiu Olayinka, who specialised in buying stolen motorcycles and reselling them.
Twelve motorcycles were recovered from his gang.
