Osun resident remanded for dumping refuse indiscriminately, beating OWMA officials

A 36-year-old resident of Osogbo in Osun state, Nicholas Ighomudo, has been remanded in Ilesa prison custody by an Osogbo Magistrate’s Court for allegedly beating two officials of the Osun Waste Management Agency.
Ighomudo was accused of dumping refuse indiscriminately before officials of the agency accosted and attempted to arrest him.
The accused person was said to have challenged them before a fight ensued between them.
Ighomudo was said to have molested the officials while they were on an official assignment.
The prosecutor, Inspector Sunday Ajayi, told the court that Ighomudo assaulted two officials of OWMA on October 14, 2017 at about 10:30pm at Onibueja Area,Ido- Osun.
Ajayi gave the names of the allegedly assaulted officials as Kehinde Luqman and Naheem Bakare.
Prosecutor Ajayi said that the offence committed by the accused person contravened Section 355 of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Volume II Laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2003.
But the accused pleaded not guilty to the three -count charge of assault and public disturbance leveled against him by the police.
Counsel to the accused, Mrs. Abiodun Raji, applied for the bail of her client in the most liberal terms, emphasising that the accused would not abuse bail privilege if granted.
But prosecutor, Ajayi, objected the bail application on the grounds that the action of Ighomudo was contrary to the laws of the state.
He said, “They went on an official assignment, but this man (accused) attacked them. If he (Ighomudo) is released on bail, he will still gang up with other colleagues at large.”
While upholding the the prosecutor’s position, Magistrate Adijat Olatundun Oloyade, ordered the remand of Nicholas Ighomudo at Ilesha prison  custody and adjourned the case till November 28,2017,for hearing.
Oloyade, however, asked the defence counsel to file a formal application for her client’s bail.
