Patient accuses eye clinic of fleecing her N80,000 for non-existent injection

A patient, Mrs. Felicia Omole, has accused the management of Mecure Eyecare Clinic, Oshodi, Lagos, of defrauding her of the sum of N80, 000 for a service that she paid for two months ago.
Omole, a retiree told our correspondent that she was referred to Mecure Eye Clinic from another private eye clinic at the Obalende area of Lagos State, Metro Eye Private Clinic.
She explained that on getting to Mecure Eyecare at Oshodi, she was asked to do series of comprehensive tests, which she did at the General Hospital, Gbagada.
Omole added that the test revealed that she had little cholesterol in her blood and she was treated. She, however, said when she got back to Mecure with the result of the test done on her at the General Hospital, Gbagada, she was told that she would be given an injection, which would cost her 80,000 because in the result of the test, which they called OTT, it was discovered that there was a flash of blood in the internal part of her eye.
Omole said, “A lady, an ophthalmologist at Mecure, who attended to me, said for it to be cured, I had to take an injection that would cost N80,000, which I paid and they booked me for another appointment date. But before that appointment date, they requested that I should go for another eye test in their diagnostic unit, where they tested me and said I was alright.
“I paid N80,000 to Mecure on Saturday, November 16, 2017 and I was asked to come back on November 20, 2017 for my injection. On November 20, which was a Monday, I got there as early as 7 am. When I got there, my card was already removed, but they checked me in at 7.00am. At about 12 noon, the optician came and was challenging the junior doctor on duty on why I had not been briefed before coming.”
She said that she was wondering what that meant until they opened up and told her that the injection had not been brought and she was not the only person waiting for that injection.
Omole said, “Up till now, January 2018, I have been calling them to ask when the injection would be available and they promised they would get back to me and up till now, they have not contacted me.
“Their client service official told me that they would get back to me and that only 25 per cent of the money would be refunded. I want my money because they were the ones that defaulted and not me.”
When our correspondent contacted Mecure EyeCentre at Oshodi, Lagos, for their reaction to the patient’s allegations, the clinic’s Client Relationship Officer, Ms. Kemi Anjorin, claimed that the injection Omole paid for was available but it was the client that had yet to come for her appointment at their hospital to take the injection.
However, as at the time of filing this report, the management of Mecure Eyecare had yet to contact their client.
“I am not sure if Mrs. Felicia Omole has signed the consent form, because the injection is available. She is supposed to come for another to be able to see the eye consultants in order to get the injection, but as I am talking, the injection is available.” Anjorin said.
