- Residents hurriedly relocate
The ongoing riot in the Mile 12 axis of Lagos State is gradually becoming an ethnic crisis as an unconfirmed report indicates that some commercial motorcyclists and traders, who are Northerners, have taken laws into their hands, razing houses, church buildings, vehicles and killing some residents.
One of the residents of the area, Pastor Chika, whose house was burnt by the hoodlums, told The Point that he was in the house with his family when he was alerted by neighbours that he should run because the house was about to be burnt.
“I had to escape being lynched by the Hausa men with my family through the roof. It is barbaric and unacceptable for some hoodlums to attack innocent people in their houses and start burning their properties. My house has been burnt and my certificates and those of my children have gone with it too,” the clergy told our correspondent.
The hoodlums have also attacked and injured some policemen, who had come to the scene to arrest them.
The crisis erupted when a commercial motorcyclist hit a Yoruba boy, who died instantly.
The development has caused a gridlock in Mile 12 through Maryland. Motorists have been advised to avoid the route for now, while some residents, who spoke with our correspondent, said they were relocating immediately.
