Police arraign two for cultism in Benue

The police in Benue State on Wednesday arraigned two suspected cultists, Anthony Okoh and Joe Orinya before a Makurdi Chief Magistrate’s court for alleged criminal conspiracy and belonging to an unlawful society.
The prosecuting police officer, Inspector Michael Iorundu told the court that on January 13 this year, the police received a tip-off that group of cultists had converged on 72 Special Forces Battalion Barracks, Batters Quarters, Makurdi.
Iorundu said that the police stormed the venue of the meeting and arrested the suspects.
When the case came up for mention, the plea of the suspects were not taken for lack of jurisdiction.
The prosecution said investigation into the matter was still in progress and asked for adjournment to enable the police to further investigate suspects.
The Magistrate, Mrs Felicia Ikyegh, ordered that the accused be remanded at the Federal Prisons in Makurdi before adjourning the case to March 1, 2017 for further mention.
