Police arrest 10 for cultism, violence in Ogun

The police in Ogun State have arrested ten suspects alleged to have participated in the cult clashes that occurred in Mowe, Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of the state on Tuesday.
The suspects were arrested in various locations in Mowe, following the violent cult clash between two rival groups.
According to the state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, the cult groups came to Mowe and caused mayhem in the area, where they vandalised vehicles and threatened the lives of the residents of the area.
Oyeyemi, an assistant superintendent of police, said, “Distress call was made to the Area Commander, Sagamu and Divisional Police Officer, Mowe. Consequently, policemen were swiftly deployed to the scene to repel the assailants.
“In the process, ten among the hoodlums were arrested, including a female member, who investigation revealed was the person whose house the cult groups had held a meeting to strategise on how to carry out the attack. The Area Commander, Sagamu, ACP Issa Gremma, who personally led the operation, is still on ground monitoring the situation.”
The PPRO said that the Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, had ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department and warned that violent crime would not be tolerated in the state.
He appealed to parents to warn their children to desist from any criminal act as the command would deal decisively with anyone caught perpetrating crime.
The police boss advised residents to go about their normal business as the force would deploy everything in its arsenal to ensure safety of all residents.
