Police arrest 17 suspected cultists in Ogun

The police in Ogun have arrested 17 suspects for alleged cult related activities in the Ijebu-Igbo area of the state.
The suspects were arrested in the Four Road area of the town, following a distress call sent by residents of the area that some hoodlums had invaded the area and were unleashing mayhem on innocent residents.
Upon the receipt of the distress call, the Divisional Police Officer in Ijebu Igbo, Superintendent Agene James, led a team of policemen to the scene while reinforcement was also sent by the area commander in Ijebu-Ode, resulting in the arrest of the suspected cultists.
At the end of the operation, 17 suspects were arrested and dangerous weapons, including locally made guns, knives, assorted charms as well as bags containing weeds, suspected to be Indian hemp, were recovered from them.
The Area Commander, ACP Funso Ajao, who coordinated the operation, has been monitoring the situation in the area to prevent the hoodlums from regrouping.
According to the state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, “The two groups which investigation revealed are “Eye” and “Aye” cult groups, are said to be engaging in supremacy battle.”
Oyeyemi, an assistant superintendent of police, added that, “The Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Iliyasu has ordered that suspects be transferred to State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for discrete investigation.”
He appealed to the members of the public to go about their business without fear of harassment from any quarters as adequate security arrangement had been put on ground to secure lives and property.
