Police arrest 2 couples, daughter, grandchild over abduction of 5-yr-old boy

The police in Osun State have arrested two couples, one of their daughters and their three-month-old grandchild for allegedly abducting a five-year-old boy in the state.

Parading the six suspects in Osogbo on Friday, the state Police Commissioner, Mr. Fimihan Adeoye, said that the suspects abducted the baby on December 21, 2016 at about 2:00pm in Ipetu-Ijesa.

The first couple arrested claimed to be prophet and prophetess of a church in Arubidi, Ile-Ife. The arrested couple are Falope Lateef and Falope Arinola.

Also paraded are 37-year-old Tope Akinboye and his pregnant wife, Idowu Adewole, 26.

A daughter to the Falopes, Mrs. Adebisi Victoria, aged 20, was arrested alongside her three-month-old baby. One Sunday Akinboye, aged 35, was also paraded.

The police commissioner explained that the victim had reported the kidnapping of his son, Ojo Adegboyega, from his house in a new site in Ipetu-Ijesa by some hoodlums to the police.

The police boss said, “The victim was later released on 26th December, 2016, after collecting a ransom of N550,000.00 from the father, which was shared among themselves.

“On 27th December, 2016, the team of detective took prompt and immediate action by unveiling the hidden phone number the suspects used to call the victim’s father and tracked the number. This led to the arrest of the following suspects: Falope Lateef, Sunday Akinboye, Tope Akinboye, Idowu Adewole, Arinola Falope. These suspects reside in Ile-Ife, Osun State, while Adebisi Victoria, lives in Ipetu-Ijesa.

“The suspects confessed to committing the crime. Meanwhile, efforts are ongoing to arrest other fleeing suspect.”
