The police in Ogun have arrested one Ezekiel Adegbenga, 40, for allegedly defiling a seven-year-old girl.
The suspect was arrested at Number 4, Olufunmi Ajayi Street, Iyana Ilogbo Ota, following a complaint from the mother of the victim, who reported at Sango Police Station that the suspect, who is their neighbour, lured the victim into his room under the pretence of sending her on an errand and had carnal knowledge of her while the parents were away at work.
Upon her complaint, the DPO, Superintendent Akinsola Ogunwale, detailed detectives to the scene, where the suspect was promptly arrested.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said that the suspect had since since owned up to committing the offence after he was confronted by the victim.
Oyeyemi, an assistant superintendent of police, added that the Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, had directed that the suspect be transferred to the Anti-Human Trafficking and Child Labour Unit of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation and prosecution.
