Police arrest man, 62, for stealing N130,000

The police in Osun State have arrested a 62-yearold man for stealing of N130,000 under the pretence of selling a motorcycle. The sexagenarian, identified as Johnson Oyelade, who has already been dragged before an Osogbo Magistrates Court on Thursday was arraigned on a three-count charge of stealing and pretence.

The prosecutor, Ajayi Sunday, said, “Johnson Oyelade and others at large, on January 20, at about 1pm at Moje Junction, Abaku area, Osogbo, did conspire with others to commit felony to wit stealing.

“Johnson and others now at large on the same date, time and place did obtained the sum of N130,000 from one Ayuba Garba with pretence of selling a Bajaj motorcycle to him.

“So also, Johnson Oyelade and others now at large on the same date, place and time did steal the sum of N130, 000 property of one Ayuba Garba.” Ajayi said that the offences committed by Oyelade and his cohorts were punishable under Section 516, 419 and 390(9) of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol. II Laws of Osun-State of Nigeria 2003.

Counsel to the accused person, Mufutau said, “I humbly pray your worship to admit the accused on bail; I assure this honorable court that the accused won’t jump bail, if bail is granted and he has people of means to stand for his bail”.

The Magistrate, Olowolagba, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N200,000 and adjourned the case till March 13, for mention.
