Police arrest man, 72, after exhuming human skull at Osun cemetery

A 72-year-old man, Idris Ajao has been arrested by detectives from the Osun State Police Command for exhuming a human skull from a cemetery in the state.

Ajao, who was paraded at the Osogbo command on Friday by the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Fimihan Adeoye, was nabbed at about 8:40pm, few minutes after he allegedly exhumed the skull.

The police boss said that police operatives had received a tip-off before a team of detectives swung into action to arrest the suspect.

Adeoye revealed that the suspect confessed that he was sent to fetch the skull by a herbalist in Iwo town, who promised to pay him N10,000.

But upon Ajao’s arrest, the herbalist was said to have fled his house.

Speaking with our correspondent, the police commissioner said, “On 29th December, 2016, at 8:40pm, upon information received, a team of police detectives rushed to Obatedo cemetery area, Iwo, where Idris Ajao (72), an indigene of Iwo, was caught with fresh human skull and was arrested with the exhibit.

“Upon interrogation, he (suspect) revealed that Tajudeen Jawesola, a herbalist residing at Hospital road, Iwo, asked him to fetch him a human skull at the rate of N10,000 (Ten thousand naira) only as his fee.

“The suspect further revealed that the herbalist, who is still at large, only told him that he wanted to use it for his work. Efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing herbalist.

Adeoye, however said that the suspect would be charged to court after completion of investigation.
