Following the recent deployment of an anti-kidnapping police team to the Abuja-Kaduna highway, eight notorious kidnappers have been arrested.
The suspects were arrested with the help of the Intelligence Response Team of the Inspector General of Police.
“Sequel to the massive deployment of patrol vehicles, SARS, anti-kidnapping units, STS and IRT operatives to the Abuja-Kaduna expressway by IGP Ibrahim K. Idris, the gangleader of the kidnappers, his second and third in command and five other gang members were arrested by operatives of IGP’s Intelligence Response Team with technical Intelligence Support from TIU on Thursday, June 15, Friday, June 16, and Saturday, June 17 respectively,” he said.

 The suspects arrested are the leader of the gang, Adamu Mamman,35; Ali Rabo aka Blacky; the second-in-command, Umar Antijo, 27; Shehu Idris Shagari, 27 and Awwalu Ahmadu, 27.
Others include Babangida Abdullahi, 31, Usman Abdulmumin, 27, and Ahmad Abdullahi, 31.

  It was also gathered that the suspects confessed that they decided to release their last victim and proceed to go and see their family members in their respective villages before IRT operatives arrested them at Maraban Jos, Anguwa Pama, Sabon Gayan and Rijana village all in Kaduna State.
  “All suspects arrested confessed to several kidnappings of motorist and passengers along the Abuja-Kaduna expressway, including the kidnapping of DSP Munir attached to Airwing Force Headquarters Abuja, a retired Police Sgt, a driver to the chairman, Senate committee on Police Affairs, five students of ABU and Nuhu Bamalli University, namely Idris Goga, Simon Terna, Kazzah Bulus and Ibra.
Meanwhile, police said the suspects were assisting IRT operatives in tracing the second group.
  Victims’ phones, SIM cards, charms, cutlasses and two pairs of Army uniforms were recovered from the Kidnappers while efforts to arrest the remaining gang members are in progress”, police said.
