Police arrest three highway robbery suspects in Ogun

The police in Ogun have arrested three members of a notorious gang operating in the Ogere axis along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The suspects, Abdul Azeez Ishola, Adetayo Gbenga and Adebayo Samson were apprehended at about 6:20am on Monday following a tip-off that they were planning to carry out another robbery operation on the express road.
The officer in charge of Gateway Trailer Park Police Post, Superintendent Paul Omiwole, led his men to their hideout, where the suspects were arrested.
Two cut-to-size single barrel guns, 7 live cartridges, two wrist watches, 21 different types of cell phones and #16,500 cash were recovered from the suspects.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said that upon interrogation the suspects confessed to have been the brain behind most of the robbery cases on the highway in that area.
Abimbola, an assistant superintendent of police, added that items recovered from them were proceeds from their earlier robbery operation.
He added that the Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, had directed that the suspects be transferred to the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad for in-depth investigation.
The PPRO said that the state police boss equally assured motorists plying the express road of adequate security as the command had deployed more personnel from Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Safer highway patrol as well as the Anti-Kidnapping Unit to properly police the highway across the state.
