Police arrest three suspected armed robbers in Ogun

The police in Ogun State have arrested three members of a suspected armed robbery syndicate at Ogunmakin in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of the state following an attack on a businessman, Isaiah Sowunmi.
The suspects were arrested after they attacked Sowunmi and shot his son Abiodun Sowunmi on the thigh in an attempt to dispossess them of their money.
Distress call was made to the police and the Divisional Police Officer, Owode Egba, Chief Superintendent of Police Sheu Alao, led his men to the scene, combed the area thoroughly and eventually arrested one Olumide Ifelowo, 28, who was subsequently identified by the victim as the person who fired the shot that injured him.
Upon interrogation, Olumide confessed to have carried out the robbery operation along with one Jeje, who is now at large, from Sagamu on invitation by Abiodun Bayegun and Fatai Sowunmi, who informed them that Isaiah Sowunmi, a cocoa merchant, was always in possession of large sums of money.
His confession led to the arrest of the said Abiodun Bayegun and Fatai Sowunmi.
A cut-to-size short gun loaded with one live cartridge was recovered from the suspects.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said that the victim of the robbery attack had been taken to hospital for medical attention.
Oyeyemi, an assistant superintendent of police, added that the Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, had ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad for thorough investigation.
Iliyasu further directed that the fleeing members of the gang be apprehended and prosecuted.
“The CP, therefore, appealed to members of the public to always beware of people around them because most robbery incidence always have the backing of an insider,” he said.
