Police kill robbery gang leader who shot DPO in Ogun

Police in Ogun have killed the leader of an armed robbery syndicate identified as Mungo Park said to have shot and injured the Divisional Police Officer of Ogbere Division, CSP Adeyinka Akingbade.
Two suspected  members of the gang, Wasiu Ganiyu, and Azeez Komolafe,  were also arrested by the police.
Akingbade had received a distress call  that the  robbers had invaded a hotel in Itele – Ijebu and had led his men to the scene, but they were attacked by the suspected robbers, who shot him at close range.
The State Commissioner of Police, Idris Ilyasu, on receiving the information, ordered the officer in charge of the Federal Anti Robbery Squad, DSP Uba Adams, to track down the suspected criminals within 24 hours.
The robbers engaged the policemen in a gun duel, which lasted for about an hour, resulting in the arrest of the two suspects and the death of their leader, while the others escaped with bullet wounds.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said that exhibits recovered from the suspects include two AK47 riffles with 120 rounds of ammunition.
The state police boss, who  expressed happiness happiness over the efforts made by the FSARS men in nabbing the suspects, also called on the members of the public, especially hospital workers, to report anyone found with gun shot wound  to the police.
He also prayed for quick recovery of the DPO, who  he described as one of the best performing officers in the  Command.
