Police swoop on Ukanafun criminal gangs

  • Arrest 23 suspects

The Special Operation Unit of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested 23 suspected criminals and cultists alleged to have been terrorising residents of the area.
The suspects were arrested in a dawn sting operation by the unit in Ukanafun and adjoining communities.
According to the state Commissioner of Police, Don Awunah, following the receipt of “actionable intelligence,” operatives of the unit swooped on the suspected hoodlums in their hideouts at different locations.
The arrested suspects include Akan Monday Emos,Walter Johnson Mendie, Unyime Aniekan George, Uyo Samuel Unah, Nyakno Friday Abraham, I bor,Archibong Usenideh, Unyime Sunday Unah, Ofonasak Ufonime Dick, Aniekan Moses Ebeowo, Udim Monday Udo and Promise Debas Johnson.
Others are Bassey Isaac Udo-Usoro, Isaac Sunday Johnson,Hope Michael Udo,Emmanuel Sunday Unah,Godsgift Odudu Sunday, Emayak Friday Udoudo, Utibe Aniekan George, Uwemedimo Udo, Ofonime Aniekan George, Joel Sunday Unah,Ofoni me Friday Ohayi and Anietie Monday
Johnson.
Exhibits said to have been recovered from them include one stolen LG plasma television set, eight expended cartridges,28 rounds of pellets, a blue robber net,one Techno phone and a sum of
N5,300.
Awunah, who promised to prosecute the suspects at the end of investigations, also urged members of the public to assist the police with the sharing of credible information on suspected
criminals.
“This feat was only achieved through such cooperation,” he said.
The police commissioner also reiterated his determination to rid the state and its environs of all forms of criminality.
