Policeman assaults woman, 64, dislocates son’s arm

A police officer attached to the Adeniji Adele Division, Lagos Island, Omolayo Ojo, has allegedly assaulted a 64-year-old woman, Mrs. Bolaji Faleye, and her son, Adejare Faleye.
It was gathered that, Adejare, 26, who was in company with his mother on their way to shop, ahead of his mobilisation for the National Youth Service Corps, suffered a dislocation of his right shoulder in the incident.
The young graduate also had his right ear badly affected, following a devastating blow the police officer allegedly gave him.
“There was no reason stated by the officer, which informed the attacks,” the victim said.
He said the problem started when he and his mother, who had arrived from the Ibafo area of Ogun State in a neighbour’s car, alighted at the Adeniji junction, and suddenly two police officers accosted them.
One of the policemen, Ojo, allegedly pulled Mrs. Faleye violently around her abdominal region, and at the same time, dragged her son along with his trousers band.
Following the alleged assault on his mother by the policeman, Adejare protested, but the policeman allegedly landed a heavy blow on his right ear.
Speaking with our correspondent, the young man said, “When we alighted from the car of our neighbour, who gave us a lift, at Adeniji junction, the officers approached us and aggressively pulled my mum around her stomach, while I was dragged by the band of my trousers.
“But I told the officer (Omolayo Ojo) to stop harassing my mum like that; he just punched me in my right ear. The pain from the punch went into my head and I started having severe headache and my ears were seriously aching. The officer didn’t stop at that, he said we must go with them to their station in the Black Maria. While I struggled with him to let go of my arm, I had a dislocation in my shoulder, due to his firm grip on my arm. I was in serious pains.”
He said the attack on him and his mother had had negative effects on his health.
While the commotion was on, Mrs. Faleye called her older son on the phone to rush down to the scene.
Her son, Dr. Oludare Faleye, said, “I got a distress call from my mother, saying that a police officer had injured my brother (Adejare). She was crying on the phone. When I got to the place, I asked the officer why he did what he did to my mother and brother. He didn’t answer me, but from what I gathered, I suspect probably he was not comfortable with where they had alighted from the car that brought them, but the car driver had left.
“As I challenged him, he went into the Black Maria and brought out a rifle, cocked and threatened to shoot me. I told him to go ahead and shoot. He then went to where I parked my car, which was on his order, and attempted to deflate my tyres. He even collected the mobile phones of my mother and brother. After a long argument, he left us and I took my brother to the Emergency Hospital at Toll Gate for treatment.”
He said the case had been reported at the Alausa Police Division.
The Division, according to him, promised to impose appropriate sanction on the accused officer.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Olarinde Famous-Cole, said, “Investigation is ongoing on the case,” adding that his command had been briefed on the development.
