All is set for the second edition of Queen Moremi Pageant in October. The maiden edition, which was held in November last year, saw Oluwadarasimi Blessing Alimashaun emerging as the winner. She won a Toyota Corolla car, cash prize and went home with other benefits.
The event is being organised as part of efforts to promote the heritage of Moremi Ajasoro, who held sway as a Queen of Ife in the 12th century.
Speaking about the event, the Heritage Ambassador the legacy of Moremi, Princess Ronke Ademiluyi, said the beauty pageant would, through the various activities, epitomise the intellect, beauty and the spirit of bravery that Queen Moremi exhibited in her lifetime for the Ile-Ife people.
She said, “For so long, we are constantly regaled with tales and exploits of the beautiful Queen Moremi and how she heroically ensured that the people of Ile-Ife were well protected against external aggressors
“We have decided to organise the pageant to honour Ile-Ife and Yoruba land’s most illustrious queen. The pageant is being organised not just for the pomp and flair associated with such events but to show the young ladies who are contesting for the crown, and the entire world how Queen Moremi lived an extraordinary life of service.”
