Ramadan: ‘Let’s pray for economic recovery’

Muslims in Nigeria have been enjoined to use the Ramadan period to pray fervently for the country’s economic recovery, as the Almighty Allah is always ready to listen to the supplications of the masses.

Making the appeal over the weekend, during a fast-breaking session with some Islamic ummah (community), Secretary to the Ikeja Divison of the Lagos Council of Imams, Alhaji Adeshina Balogun, said events in the last two years in Nigeria called for prayers and supplications.

“The Ramadan period is always a moment for sober reflection, a period of abstinence. By that, if we look around us and remind God of how things have been tough, of how it has been hard to feed and to take care of our children, the Almighty Allah will be moved and HE will send HIS Malaaikah (angel) to help us,” he said.

Balogun further enjoined fasting Muslims to pray for the full recovery of President Muhammadu Buhari, stressing that the ill-health of the President had not augured well for the anti-corruption crusade which he embarked upon.

“We need the President to be in good health to be able to fight corruption doggedly. We are aware that his detractors don’t want him around so that they can continue with their looting spree, but by the special grace of Allah, our President will return to Nigeria in good health,” he prayed.

The cleric further enjoined parents to teach their children in the ways of Almighty Allah, saying the Imams were worried at the daily reports of robbery, kidnapping and other forms of crime, perpetrated mostly by the youths.

He commended Lagos Governor Akinwumi Ambode, “for his wonderful transformation of the Lagos streets, within just two years of taking over office.”
