Rangers, Rivers United shift attention to CCC after CCL ouster

…as ABS tackle Enyimba

Embattled Rangers International Football Club of Enugu and Rivers United Football Club of Port Harcourt, both of which crashed out of the CAF Champions’ League on Sunday, are to shift their attention to the CAF Confederation Cup.

Both clubs failed to qualify into the money-spinning Champions League stage after losing to Zamalek Football Club of Egypt and Al-Merrikh Football Club of Sudan on home and away basis.

Surprisingly, two Nigerians are in the Sudanese club, who helped Al-Merrikh to achieve the great task against River United.

Kelechi Osunwa, Dayo Ojo could not hold back their feelings after Rivers United’s elimination, as they urged the club not to lose focus in their subsequent matches.

Osunwa said, “Next time, they (Rivers United) should try not to relax when they have a 3-0 first leg advantage.

They must also work hard in the second leg. Those were the major lapses I noticed in the Rivers United side and they fell (in Omdurman).

“This is football where you cannot predict what can happen in 90 minutes. The coach was so upset about the first game in Port Harcourt.

(But) he also knew that we (the players) were really tired before the game.

We (simultaneously) play in the Arab Champions League, the CAF Champions League plus the domestic league and Cup.

We were so tired during that first leg in Port Harcourt and that fatigue was the reason why we lost the game.
