Rector reiterates Yabatech’s commitment to skills development

First set of trainees of the Yabatech-IBM West Africa collaboration on flexible and blended skills have begun training on the development of mobile applications at Chevron Studio, Engineering School, Yaba College of Technology, Lagos.
The training, which will culminate in the certification of the participants, is being offered free for college staff and interested individuals with requisite background.
The Rector, Yabatech, Dr. Margaret Kudirat Ladipo, applauded the collaboration for the training, saying feelers from the industry showed that big data developers, mobile application administrators, application security specialists, security intelligence analysts, business process developers, among others, were in dire need in the industry and commennde IBM for focusing on these areas during the training.
Ladipo, who was represented by the Deputy Rector (Academics), Dr. Taiwo Oyelola, said Yabatech was poised to give leadership in flexible and blended skills development and would leave no stone unturned in satisfying the needs of the industry through the provision of experts.
“Our commitment to skills development remains unshaken. We are steadfast in our commitment to entrepreneurial education so that our graduates can be sufficiently equipped to be self-reliant and be part of the development of existing and emerging industries,” she said.
She congratulated IBM West Africa Limited for collaborating with Yabatech in leapfrogging the expansion of the ICT industry in Nigeria.
“We will continue to affiliate with forward looking players in the intellectual and industrial sectors to continually expand the horizon of our staff and students,” Ladipo said.
The IBM University Relations Leader for West Africa, Mr. Chinedu Onuoha, commended Yabatech for the openness that attended the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding that facilitated the collaboration.
He charged the trainees to develop themselves through the acquisition of technical skills needed in the modern world.
Yabatech Director of Academic Planning, Dr. Wasiu Adedeji, charged the participants to take advantage of the opportunity provided by the programme to expand their capabilities and excel.
