…call on govt to save them from cultists

Refuse collectors under the aegis of the Lagos State Waste Management Authority
and residents of Lagos Island Local Government have staged a peaceful demonstration
at the Lagos State Government House, Alausa, Ikeja, to demand official reaction to persistent attacks by perceived cultists against residents and waste disposal agents.

A spokesman of the residents said, “We are on our way to Alausa (secretariat of Lagos State Government) and Police command with corpses of two of our people, who were killed by cultists in a recent attack. “Their bodies were deposited at the Lagos Island General Hospital mortuary. We delayed our action in the hope that government would have stepped into the case, but since there had been no official reaction, we are forced into this peaceful protest.”

One of the protesters, who spoke with our correspondent, explained, “We cannot continue losing our people in this area in the hands of these hoodlums while people in authority are looking the other way.

“Imagine the LAWMA workers, who were attacked few weeks ago, did they offend anyone Is it wrong to keep our state clean? Government should not abandon us like this, they should interfere.”

The Point also learned that two other residents, Akeem Ajanaku and Yusuf Sonibare, had earlier been hacked to death by the hoodlums, who had been disturbing the peace of the residents.

Ajanaku, a victim of cult aggression, was killed a few days after the delivery of his first child.

“Akeem Ajanaku was denied the opportunity of naming his first child because he was killed a few days after his wife gave birth to his first child,” a source said.

“The case was so pathetic that his mother also ran mad as soon as the incident happened and the poor woman was transferred to the Neuropsychiatric Hospital , Aro, Abeokuta,” he added.

Meanwhile, the health of yet another LAWMA worker, Rilwane Thomas, who was stabbed in the eye about three weeks ago, remains precarious as speculations are rife that he has given up the ghost. A source, who preferred anonymity, told our correspondent,

“We heard yesterday that he died in the hospital when his condition got very critical. He has remained, voiceless since the knife was removed from his head with surgery at the general hospital. His case was very unfortunate,” he added.

On the contrary, a LAWMA contractor, who spoke with The Point, Mrs. Ola Williams, denied the story that the victim of this gruesome attack had passed on while receiving
medical attention, adding that he had only remained voiceless shortly after the surgical operation to remove the knife from his socket.

“We heard that some big names are behind this cult invasion,” the source said, adding that “this was designed to disturb the peace of people in this area.”

Finally, the Lagos state Police Public Relation officer, Superintendent of Police Dolapo Badmus, has said that the victim is recuperating in the hospital.

“He is still alive in the hospital convalescing. Three people have been arrested and charged to court on the matter. Meanwhile, police is still combing the area for more suspects who are on the run. Lagos police is committed to the protection of lives and properties. We
implore members of the public to always give information that will lead to the arrest of criminals,” she said.
