Rep tasks colleagues to donate N50,000 each to Team Nigeria Paralympians

A member of the House of Representatives, Ayo Omidiran, has tasked her fellow members of the House to donate N50,000 each to appreciate and honour the victorious Team Nigeria to the just concluded Rio 2016 Paralympics Games in Brazil.
Addressing the House on Thursday in Abuja, Omidiran lauded the disabled athletes for their outstanding feat in Rio, in spite of the challenges they went through during the preparations for the Games.
The contingent won 12 medals, comprising eight gold, two silver and two bronze, to rank the best in Africa and among the best participants at the Games.
She also asked the House to invite the athletes to the hallowed chamber and honour them, adding that such gesture would go a long way to encourage the athletes in future.
The Federal Government had pledged to reward the athletes immediately they arrived from Rio and sports administrators have been keeping vigil at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa, to put finishing touches to the proposed red carpet reception.
The athletes are still hanging around in Abuja with the hope of getting something reasonable as rewards from the Federal Government.
Powerlifting coach, Are Feyisetan, said that the athletes should be encouraged for them not to go back to the streets to beg for money, adding that as disabled, they need more attention than other athletes.
