TB Joshua set to float varsity in Ondo

…acquires vast land in Oba-Akoko

Founder of Synagogue Church for All Nations, Prophet Temitope Joshua, has reportedly concluded plans to establish a world-class university in Oba-Akoko, a community in Akoko South-West Local Government area of Ondo State.

The cleric, who is an indigene of Ondo State, hails from Arigidi-Akoko, another community in the Akoko area but reportedly opted for Oba-Akoko, as the latter has the largest undeveloped land mass in the
Akoko zone.

Joshua had visited the palace of the Oba-Akoko monarch, the Oloba, Oba Adeniyi Adegoroye, recently, during which he held a meeting with the royal father and his chiefs, reportedly to thank them for doing him the favour of allocating a wide expanse of land to him, for the establishment of a private university under the auspices of the Synagogue Church of All
Nations.

Confirming Joshua’s visit, Oba Adegoroye told The Point that the cleric had asked for a land for the purpose of bringing development to his community, saying that he and his chiefs did not hesitate to consent
his request.

“He actually came to the palace to request for a land for the purpose of developing Oba-Akoko community and we all expressed joy and thanked him because that project would bring development and also assist our youths,” he said.

The monarch declined to mention the purpose for the land allocation and whether the community gave it free-of-charge to Joshua or sold it to him. He merely said, “It is a private thing.”

But a female chief who was at the palace and who would not want to be mentioned, said, “He told us point blank that he wanted to site a world-class university in our community and we all decided to offer him a land at Igbo-Iwoye, a big part
of our town.

“The land we gave him is as big as half of the community, about 250 acres, for which he expressed deep appreciation. Even, TB Joshua surprised us because the day he came, it was raining heavily. Somebody remarked that members of the community wanted to catch a glimpse of him but for the downpour. But to our surprise, TB Joshua said, ‘there will be no rain’, and the heavy rain stopped immediately.”

Oba Adegoroye also disclosed that youths in the community had volunteered to start clearing bushes on the land, to excite Joshua into starting his project in earnest.

TB Joshua came into the news three months ago, when he indicated his desire to relocate to Israel, a move that has attracted pleadings from his Nigerian followers, who believed he would be out of touch. It cannot, however, be confirmed if he would also relocate his Synagogue headquarters, currently in Ikotun, Lagos, to Oba-Akoko in Ondo State, to pair with the proposed
university.

Efforts to seek confirmation on the new university project through Joshua’s media unit have so far not yielded fruit, as its officials demanded more time to
respond.
