Things fall apart! Crisis rockS Okumagba-led NFSC

The factional leader of the Nigeria Football Supporters Club, Vincent Okumagba, is at crossroads with members of his club, following the refusal of his executives to give support to members to cheer the Super Eagles Team B at the just-concluded CHAN Championship in Morocco.

The Point gathered that members from various chapters were asked to pay the sum of N56,000 for their visa and insurance fee, but to the members’ utmost dismay, they were told that the Moroccan Embassy had refused to issue them visa.

Okumagba, the factional national chairman of the NFSC, it was learnt, has not been able to offer any explanation as to why his members could not to travel to the CHAN Championship finals, even after telling members that sponsorship had been secured for the trip.

This situation has thrown up serious concerns, as members belonging to the Okumagba-led faction are seeing this problems as lack of seriousness or not having the know-how on how best the club is being run at the top level.

The leadership of the NFSC is still   in a logjam between the Reverend Samuel Ikpea faction and that Vincent Okumagba but the latter has tried to no avail to win the affection of government.

A member of the NFSC who did not want his name in print, told The Point that members were really not happy with the current situation, because after they were asked to pay N50, 000, the national body also demanded for another N6,000. And even at that, members could not make it to Morocco to cheer their darling team.

He said, “A credibility problem has set into the Vincent Okumagba camp of the NFSC; if he does not do something on time, it may affect his leadership quality and people will begin to look at the other faction as more serious in terms of delivery.

“Let him give back members their money, since they could not make the trip and the visa which the money was meant for was not procured; so the members need some explanation and if this is not forthcoming, then their will likely to be a serious crisis”.

The secretary of Okumagba’s faction of the NFSC, Mrs Kemi Popoola, could not be reached for comment, as several calls put across to her showed that her line was switched off, at press time.
