Three docked for burgling shop, stealing motor batteries worth N240,000

Three young men were on Friday arraigned before an Osogbo Magistrate’s Court in Osun State for allegedly burgling a motor parts shop and carting away auto batteries.
The three persons docked on offences bearing on conspiracy and theft were 22-year-old Alade Michael; Hammed Mufutau, 20, and Atanda Mutiu, 28.
Police prosecutor, Sergeant Sunday Ajayi, told the court that the ten batteries stolen by the accused were valued at N240,000.
He said the accused persons conspired to commit the offence on August 2nd at about 4:30am along Obelawo area, Osogbo.
Ajayi said the accused persons burgled a shop belonging to one Among Yusuf and carted away the batteries.
The prosecutor claimed that the accused persons had been terrorising the area with their other colleagues now at large, before luck ran out on them.
He said the offence committed contravened Sections 516, 413,412, 390(9) and 427 of the Criminal Code Cap 34 vol.11 Laws of Osun, 2003.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge preferred against them by the police.
Counsel to the accused persons, Mrs. Raji Alimi , prayed the court to grant her clients bail in the most liberal terms.
The Magistrate, Mrs Olubukola Olowolagba, granted the accused persons bail in the sum of N1Million and two reliable surety each in like sum.
The magistrate said that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction with evidence of tax payment and two passport sized photographs, attached with an affidavit of means.
The case was adjourned till September 8 for mention.
