Togolese rapes minor in Lagos

A Togolese national, Tobi Alase, has allegedly raped a ten-year-old minor, Balikis Jimoh, at the Alapere area of Lagos.
Alase, 20, who resides at 17, Ifeoluwa Street, Alapere, Ketu area of Lagos State, is a neighbour to the victim’s mother, Mrs. Falilat Jimoh.
According to a source, Alase allegedly lured the victim with biscuit into his apartment, where he forcibly had carnal knowledge of her.
It was gathered that both the suspect and the victim’s mother had been friends in the past six years.
Speaking to our correspondent, the victim’s mother, who is a trader at Mile 12 Market, said she noticed her daughter’s mode of walking changed, and that prompted her to enquire what had happened to her.
She said, “When I came back from the market that day, I noticed that Balikis was not walking normally. I then asked why she was walking that way and when I examined her, I saw her pants stained with blood. So, I asked her who did that to her and she said it was Tobi, my friend’s son.
“I reported the incident to the mother and her husband, but they took offence. They said their son could not do such a thing.
“I later reported the case at the Alapere Police Station, but the police have not been taken the matter seriously. They have been demanding money, recharge cards, money to fuel their vans and so on and making it difficult for me. I am the only one taking care of the girl.”
But she also reported the incident at the Ogudu Health Centre, where she was advised to take the child to the Mirabel Centre at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja,
Lagos.
Jimoh further said her life was in danger as two unidentified men entered her room and beat her
up.
“While I was in my room, two men came inside and beat me up. They just asked to confirm my name and when I said yes, they started beating me,” she said.
But following the assault and threats the distraught mother said she was not going to press the matter any further.
