Trouble looms at IMSU over payment of tuition fees by non-indigenes

Trouble is currently brewing in Imo State University as the management of the institution has barred non-indigenous students from benefitting from the tuition-free policy programme of the state government.
The management of the institution was said to have taken the decision to bar students of IMSU who are not indigenes of the state from enjoying the programme after a meeting of its Senate.
A source, who spoke with The Point on the issue, revealed that crisis was already looming in the institution as the leadership of the Students’ Union Government had disagreed with the school authority for taking such a decision.
He noted that the student’s leadership had already appealed to the IMSU management on behalf of their affected colleagues to allow them enjoy the same right as the indigenous students without discrimination.
The source, however, said that the management did not accede to the students’ request, stating that the state was expending a lot of money on its free education programme due to over-population of its institutions.
