Two siblings drown in Osun river trying to fetch ball

Residents of Oke-Ijetu area, along Ilesa Garage road, Osogbo, Osun State, have been thrown into shock as two siblings drowned while trying to fetch a ball that fell into the Osun river.
A resident of the area, who witnessed the drowning of the two boys said that some boys were playing football beside the river when their ball fell into it and in their attempt to retrieve the ball, the two brothers got drowned.
“While trying to fetch the ball, two boys, of the same parents fell into the river while making efforts to get the ball. Their bodies floated on the river some minutes after,” the source, who preferred anonymity said.
Our correspondent gathered that the sad incident occurred on Saturday.
The source revealed that the late siblings, whose names were not known as at the time of filing this report were they aged 16 and 14 years old.
It was further learnt that the children traveled to Osogbo to celebrate Christmas and New Year with their elder sister living in the state capital.
The remains of the siblings have been deposited at the morgue of the State Hospital in Asubiaro, Osogbo.
Relatives of the deceased were devastated when the sad news was broken to them. They were said to have raced to the Osun river to resuscitate the boys, who had, however, given up the ghost before they arrived at the scene.
The relations of the deceased boys wept uncontrollably, refusing to be consoled.
When contacted on the telephone by our correspondent, Osun State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Folasade Odoro, said that the incident had yet to be reported to the police.
