UNESCO endorses SPELL & THRILL competition, grand finale holds Dec 13

All is set for the grand contest of the fifth edition of the SPELL&THRILL competition, which is billed to hold on December 13, 2017.
Also, the United Nations Education Cultural and Scientific Organisation has endorsed the spelling competition.
According to the Initiator of SPELL&THRILL, Ayotunde Ikulamberu, the 2017 edition had been endorsed by UNESCO.
He said, “This edition of SPELL&THRILL is UNESCO endorsed. UNESCO is integrating the Media and Information Literacy Curriculum into school curricula all around the world. The global body has considered SPELL&THRILL as a veritable platform to actually integrate that curriculum into Nigerian schools’ curricula.
“This is our first engagement with UNESCO and it has been a good one. We are introducing it on the most basic level and we are hopeful that as the years roll by, it will be something we are going to be doing on a big scale with UNESCO.”
The SPELL&THRILL competition intervention project is currently being supported by participating states’ Ministries of Education, Universal Basic Education Board offices across Southwestern Nigeria, the founder of Afe Babalola University, Aare Afe Babalola; Usam Educational Consult and the African office for the Media and Information Literacy Curriculum.
SPELL&THRILL is a spelling competition among primary and secondary school pupils and students in Southwest Nigeria and Kwara State. It is a project of Educand Education Initiative, which seeks to increase students’ vocabulary, improve their reading habit, and build self-esteem and confidence, and stage composure. The competition also aims at improving the spelling skills, and academic concentration and focus of pupils and students in primary and secondary schools in Nigeria.
