Developed countries, especially the United States of America and the United Kigdom, have been accused of aiding and abetting corruption in Niger, and Africa, by providing safe havens for funds stolen from Nigeria.

A political group, the Arewa United Political Forum, made the allegation, adding that rather than investigate the sources of funds brought to their shores from Nigeria and other developing countries, they turned blind eyes.

The Chairman of the Lagos State chapter of the group, Alhaji Mohammed DandammaYabo, in a chat with The Point, alleged that the Western world encouraged corruption in Nigeria and Africa as a whole, by failing to investigate the source of funds being taken to their countries from Nigeria and other less developed countries.

According to him, “If they ask our leaders the source of their money, the rush to stash ill-gotten wealth abroad will reduce. “But it is a pity that these countries, like the United States, Switzerland and the United Kingdom, encourage them to bring the money by providing facilities to safe guard the stolen money.”

Dandamma-Yabo, who also doubles as the chairman of Shukrah Yam Sellers Association, Mile 12, urged the international community to unite against such a vice, and support President Muhammadu Buhari in his determination to fight corruption to a standstill.

“I call upon the global community to urgently redouble efforts towards strengthening the mechanisms for dismantling safe havens for proceeds of corruption and ensuring the return of stolen funds and assets to Nigeria,” he said.

Dandamma-Yabo also described the peddlers of the rumoured death of President Buhari as wicked set of people who did not have the love of the country at heart.

He said, “Nigerian should know that everyone will die one day and as a human being, one will always experience one form of sickness or the other at a particular time of his life. “It is morally wrong for people to be wishing the president dead in as much as all of us are human beings who can fall sick at any time.

There should be no reason for anybody to make issue out of his health condition. Every patriotic Nigerian should be concerned with the smooth running of government by supporting the Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, while he holds forth for President Buhari.

“I am sure this is what the President is experiencing and I am sure by God’s grace, he will pull through and return to the country stronger, to continue the mandate given to him by the people,” he stated.
