We have lessons to learn from Pa Ajayi’s demise – Adebutu, reps member

A member of the National Assembly, Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu, has described of being incapable of leading the electoral body. Describing the alleged plot as an invitation to anarchy, they said that Nigerians have lost faith in the INEC leadership.
Despite the calls for his resignation, the INEC chairman said that considering the challenges and malpractices that have marred elections, both in the past and in recent times in the country, the commission cannot guarantee that the demise of elder statesman, Sir Olanihun Ajayi, as a great loss to the Yoruba and the Nigerian nation.
Adebutu, representing Ikenne/ Sagamu/Remo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, stated this while paying a condolence visit to the Isara Remo country home of Pa Ajayi.
According to the lawmaker, the late politician, who was one of the strong pillars of the first and second republics, lived a life of selfless service to the people.
Adebutu said, “Baba lives on as his heritage is alive in the hearts of the people and this should be a great consolation that Sir Lanihun Ajayi left a legacy of good conduct and of selfless service to the people in his lifetime.”
The lawmaker, who expressed his regret at the demise of Pa Ajayi, especially at this turning point in the nation’s democracy, said there was still a lot that the next generation of politicians could learn from the elder statesman.
“When you lose a great prophet, you say to yourself why didn’t I seize the opportunity to spend more time with him and imbibe more of what he could have given. Now that he is gone, too suddenly, his teachings and his words now become stronger in the minds,” he said.
Adebutu added that the minimum that the younger generation of politicians could do to honour the memory of the late politician was to carry on his ideals, ideology and the principles for which he lived and died.
