We’ll punish those extorting motorists, TRACE warns officers

The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps has decried the increasing cases of alleged exploitation and extortion levelled against its officers, warning that it would deal decisively with any of them found culpable.
TRACE Corps Commander, Seni Ogunyemi, gave the warning in Abeokuta while addressing supervisors, leaders and field Commanders of the Corps.
“The attention of the management has been drawn to the increasing rate of suspected extortion within and among field operatives as observed by members of the public”, he revealed, adding that the action is capable of derailing the purpose for which the Corps was set up by the state government.
Ogunyemi warned that government was ready to invoke appropriate sanctions through relevant sections of the anti-graft laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria against any officer found wanting.
He, therefore, advised TRACE officers to be wary of any act capable of tarnishing the image of the Corps and government, charging them to be disciplined, dedicated to their duty and be good ambassadors.
Urging the various field commanding officers and special squad leaders to ensure proper monitoring and supervision of the activities of the operatives regularly, the TRACE corps commander assured that adequate compensation would be given to outstanding officers, who remained steadfast and dedicated to duty.
He restated the commitment of the TRACE management to ensuring sanity on the roads in the state and appealed to motorists and other road users to adhere strictly to traffic rules and regulations.
