Wife, son drag septuagenarian hubby to court for swindling them N250,000

A house wife, Alirat Olawumi and her son, Jamiu Olawumi, have dragged a 70-year-old man, Kareem Adebayo, said to be Olawumi’s husband, before a Magistrate’s court sitting in Osogbo, Osun State, for allegedly duping them of the sum of N250,000 over a non-existent job in the Army.
Adebayo was accused of collecting the sum of N250,000 from his wife with a promise that he would secure a job for their son, Jamiu, in the Army but the accused failed in this regard.
When the police brought Adebayo to court on Tuesday for arraignment, Prosecutor, Taiwo Adegoke, informed the court that the accused person, sometimes this year, received the sum of N250,000 from Alirat Olawumi under the pretence of assisting her son, Jamiu Olawumi, to secure a job in the Armed Forces.
Adegoke further told the court that the accused person had assured the complaints that he had another son in Benin, Edo State, who was a military officer and that he would use his influence to secure Jamiu a job in the Army.
But the prosecutor argued that the accused person reneged on his commitment and also failed to return the money paid him.
He then stated that the offence committed by the septuagenarian was contrary to and punishable under Section 419 of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Volume III, Laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2003.
Meanwhile, the accused person entered into a not guilty plea of the one-count of fraud preferred against him.
Counsel to septuagenarian, Najite Okobe, applied for the bail of his client in the most liberal terms.
Magistrate Olubokola Awodele granted the accused person bail in the sum of N200,000 with one surety in the like amount.
Awodele adjourned the matter till November 24 for hearing.
