A housewife, simply identified as Mrs. Ojor, has committed suicide in Warri, Delta State, over alleged infidelity by her husband.
The mother of four, who resided in the Market Road area of Warri before the incident, was said to have to have been upset and frustrated by the alleged incessant philandering and sexual escapades of her husband, for who she had three of her children.
It was gathered that the deceased, who had a daughter for another man before getting married to her husband, had occasionally threatened to take her life if her husband did not stop staying long outside their home and flirting with other women.
But having reached her wits’ end in her efforts to prevail on her husband to desist from chasing other women, she was alleged to have secretly planned to end it all by drinking Sniper, a very dangerous insecticide.
To make good her suicide threat, the mother of four allegedly locked herself up inside her shop at the end of that day’s work, as other traders in the area headed for their individual homes, uncorked a bottle of the liquid insecticide, which she had earlier bought, and emptied the content into her mouth.
Gulping the poisonous substance, she was said to have lain writhing in excruciating pain throughout the night alone inside her shop until the early hours of the next day when she gave up the ghost.
The lifeless body of the mother of four was found locked inside her shop along Market Road early in the morning after her husband and neighbours discovered that she did not sleep in her house the previous night and trailed her to the shop.
A close family source disclosed that it was the curiosity of her husband and neighbours, concerning her whereabouts that made them to check the woman’s shop the next day, only to discover that it was not locked from outside.
When they forced their way into the shop, they found the lifeless body of the woman close to a container of the Sniper insect killer, which she allegedly drank in her bid to accomplish her alleged suicide mission.
“She had always threatened that she would kill herself if her husband did not stop seeing other women and ladies.
Everybody thought it was just empty threats by a woman filled with jealousy, until that day when she actually killed herself by staying back in her shop in the night, instead of going home and drinking Sniper to put an end to everything.
It’s so sad that she ended everything this way,” a source said. The police in the area have already launched an investigation into the alleged suicide.
