A 20-year-old man, Bello Musibau, has been remanded in Ilesa Correctional Centre for allegedly joining a secret society.

The Police dragged Musibau to an Osogbo Magistrate’s Court on a three-count charge, bordering on membership of secret group and breach of public peace.

Police prosecutor, Inspector Temitope Fatoba, informed the court that the young defendant committed the act on September 22, 2023.

“That you, Bello Musibau, and others, now at large, on 22/09/2023, at about 10am, at Osogbo, in the Osogbo Magisterial District, did conspire with others at large to commit felony to wit: membership of unlawful society and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 516 of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol. II Laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2002.

“You did engage yourselves in unlawful society known as ‘Eiye Confraternity’ and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 64 of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol. II Laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2002.

“That you conducted yourselves in a manner likely to cause breach of public peace and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 249 (D) of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol. II Laws of Osun State of Nigeria, 2002,” the charge read.

Musibau pleaded not guilty to all the allegations.

Chief Magistrate Olusegun Ayilara ordered that the accused person be remanded in prison and ordered that a formal application be made for his bail.

The matter was adjourned till October 19 for mention.
