200 Lagosians benefit from free LCDA/Rotary Club medical test programme

More than 200 residents of Lagos have benefitted from the free eye treatment and medical test, jointly sponsored by the Ikosi/Isheri Local Council Development Area and the Rotary Club of Magodo.

Our correspondent, who visited the council premises, observed residents of the community, numbering about 500, queuing to undergo the free eye and medical test.

The LCDA Chairman, Mr. Abdulfatai Oyesanya, said the initiative was part of the council’s partnership programme with the Rotary Club of Magodo to ameliorate medical problems confronting residents under its jurisdiction.

“In fulfilment of one of our promises before the election that brought me in as the chairman, we have decided to ensure that our people’s medical problems are catered for. And we are not doing this alone today; we have partners who are the Rotary Club of Magodo. They have been wonderful partners in various development programmes within our local council and I really appreciate them,” Oyesanya said.

President, Rotary Club of Magodo, Mr. Oluwaolorunlanke Olaleye, said the initiative was one of the humanitarian programmes of the
club.

“The programme is one of our initiatives to cater for people. It is called free eye cataract operation for the indigents. It is meant for restoring vision to the people, who are having challenges with their sights,” he said.

According to him, “More than 100 residents are expected to benefit from the free medical exercises, which include surgical operation”.

The Medical Officer of the LCDA, Dr. Oyewole Folorunso, said the initiative by the council and Rotary Club would help the less-privileged in the community to address some of their medical problems.

Meanwhile, some of the beneficiaries of the initiatives have appreciated the sponsors, saying that it is a way to extend the dividends of democracy to the grassroots
people.

“We are so happy to have free medical service in our community. We appreciate the initiators as dividends of democracy,” a beneficiary, Mrs. Florence Gbadamosi,
said.

“I appreciate the organisers because I have no means to cater for this sight challenge I have been battling with for years. But today, God is using them for me,” another resident, Joshua Adenugba, said.
