2014 Confab report, panacea to Nigeria’s problems – Adedoja

A former minister for special duties and sports, Prof. Taoheed Adedoja, has said that the adoption and implementation of the report of the 2014 national conference was the solution to the problems hindering Nigeria’s growth and development. Adedoja, who was one of the Peoples Democratic Party national chairmanship aspirants in the 2016 national convention, noted that the report of the confab could proffer solution to the socio-economic and political problems now confronting the country.
The former minister, who stated this during a chat with our correspondent in Abuja, also said that Nigerians had now seen the difference between the ruling All Progressives Congress and the PDP government barely a year after the President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration came into office.
He said, “I believe strongly that the report of the national conference that was held by the last administration will proffer solutions to Nigeria’s economic, social and political problems”.
Adedoja, while commenting on the recent displacement of Nigeria to the position of the second largest economy on the African continent by South Africa, said, “Economic crisis is a natural phenomenon, but it can be solved by the leadership of a country.
“We have elected a President for Nigeria, and we are waiting for his assurance that things will change. Government has not announced some interim measures to bring about poverty alleviation for Nigerians; we are waiting. The best we can do is to wait for the programmes”.
On his assessment of the one year of the APC-led Federal Government, the former minister said, “Nigerians have seen that the PDP is a right party; Nigerians have seen that the kind of changes they expected, they have not got it.
“Changes in economic reforms, changes in virtually all sectors, Nigerians are waiting. But because Nigerians believe in his leadership, because they believe in prayers, because they are patient, Nigerians are waiting for the present government,” Adedoja said.
He claimed that no other party, except the PDP, had the capability to bring the required change the citizens yearned for, stressing, “Nigerians have tried PDP for 16 years and another party for one year.
“I believe that PDP is the only party that can provide the required leadership and direction for Nigeria, inspite of the challenges the party is facing”.
Adedoja, however, warned, that “if there is no equity, justice and fairness and you set aside PDP’s constitution, Nigeria’s constitution, then you cannot solve any problem”.
