2018 JAMB Policy Meeting: Candidates can no longer gain admission with fake credentials – JAMB

…says verification’ll be done via Board’s mobile device

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has said that candidates with forged documents can no longer have their way as the board has devised a means to identify original documents, which will also verify the admission status of students.

JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, who disclosed this at the Board’s 2018 Policy Meeting in Gbogan, Osun State, expressed displeasure with the increasing rate of the use of unaccepted and forged documents by students to gain admission, even while JAMB had yet to approve such admission.

He stated that the development had smeared the image of the Board and made people to have the wrong impression that JAMB was being
partial.

According to him, this incidence has made the Board to come up with certain security features, which will be used to differentiate original documents from fake, and further maintain the JAMB matriculation list for all
institutions.

“We have had several cases of fake documents, let me call it unaccepted document. This will not continue anymore. You can no longer use fake credentials. Your name will have to be verified on the JAMB matriculation list by your institution during screening,” he
said.

The JAMB registrar, therefore, directed institutions to get their copy of the board’s matriculation list and make use of the new device to check credentials before admitting students to avoid wasted years by students.

The new device includes the use of the JAMB mobile and a water marked sign on the printed original
slip.

“Each institution is required to verify the characteristics given by JAMB. For instance, the registration number of the candidate will be water marked, each across the two documents; that is the provisional admission letter and the JAMB slip. Also, each institution would use the Mobile Application, JAMBMOBILE on phones or similar devices to verify the security features on the document such as name, registration number and institution/course,” Oloyede
said.

He said that the application could be downloaded from google store and it would be used to check the candidates’ admission status.

“Institutions should check the candidates’ status on this and at the point of registration, download list of candidates offered provisional admission.  If the candidates have printed their result slip and admission letter, it will be indicated against each candidate,” the JAMB registrar said.
