2019: Accord Party backs Yewa to produce Ogun gov, demands younger candidate

The Accord Party in Ogun has backed the agitation that the Ogun West Senatorial District be allowed to produce a governor for the state in 2019.

The AP, however, said that it would prefer the Yewa/Awori people to choose a youth as their standard bearer for the governorship of the state in 2019.

We prefer a youth from Ogun West

The party said picking a youth as the governorship candidate would placate the restive youths, who had continued to kick against their alleged marginalisation by the older generation in the scheme of things in the country, especially regarding the right to contest for political offices.

The state Publicity Secretary of the AP, Mr. Michael Adesanya, told our correspondent in an interview in Abeokuta, the state capital, that the party was set to pick a youth from the Ogun West Senatorial District to vie for the governorship position in the state.

Adesanya assured that the party would shun all forms of godfatherism and imposition tendencies to pick its candidates, adding that youths would be given the chance to contest for any political posts on the AP platform, regardless of the class or standing of interested individuals in the society.

He said, “We are not going to do imposition; we know that Yewa has not taken their slot. So, every right-thinking person will support Yewa and we are praying that Yewa will put its house in order this time around, because natural justice says that it should be their turn.

“The youth are coming up seriously; you pick a 60-year-old man and you are telling us because he is young at heart, he is a youth. No!  You are cheating the younger generation. In fact, the national policy of the Accord Party is to give a chance to the youths and this is the party for the youths.”
