ANational Assembly member, Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, has said that his focus for now is on the delivery of his campaign promises to the electorate and not how to get re-elected in the 2019 general elections.
Ohuabunwa, representing Abia North in the Senate, stated this in a chat with our correspondent in Arochukwu, Abia State, after a town hall meeting with his constituents at the headquarters of the five local government areas in the district.
The areas are Umunneochi, Isuikwuato, Bende, Ohafia and Arochukwu, where he handed over both cash and tools to 150 beneficiaries of his skills acquisition programme.
The lawmaker, who is also the chairman of the Senate Committee on Community Health and Communicable Diseases, reaction followed demands by a large number of his constituents that he should re-contest the election.
I’m not yet done with my present mandate
According to him, “In fact, I appreciate their confidence in me and their calls for me to contest the election in 2019, but I am not yet done with my present mandate.”
Ohuabunwa listed the sectors he had attracted development to the district to include health facilities and health-care delivery service, electricity, road, water projects, education and human capital development.
He disclosed that besides demand by the constituents, he had been receiving requests from either individuals or groups seeking one form of assistance or another from him.
“It may surprise you to know that on the average, I receive over 100 text message from both individuals and groups for me to assist them, either financially or materially,” he said.
While handing over the cheques and tools to the beneficiaries, the Peoples Democratic Party lawmaker warned that they should use them for the purpose they were given.
In his reaction in Bende, the headquarters of Bende Local Government Area, the Chairman of the Council, Chief Gabriel Elendu, commended the lawmaker for the empowerment programme.
Similarly, one of the beneficiaries, Nduka Nwaorisara, said through his programmes for the district, the former House of Representatives member had confounded his detractors.
The beneficiaries, who received various amounts of money ranging from N20, 000.00 to N50, 000.00 and tools, were trained through SMEDEN in Ohafia.
