Barely 24 hours after the declaration in Abuja by former vice president, Atiku AbubAabar, to contest for the office of the president, Peter Obi has also declared interest to vie for the highest political office in the land.

Peter Obi was the vice-presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party and Atiku’s running mate at the 2019 general elections. Obi made his declaration on Thursday before traditional rulers at the Anambra State Government Conference Hall, Agu-Awka, in Anambra state, where he once held sway as Governor.

In his speech, he acknowledged the traditional rulers and said it was important he sought their blessings, as well as their prayers and support, for his presidential ambition.

‘’I am talking to the traditional rulers because if somebody begins any journey, he must first tell his father. I am telling you as my fathers that I am coming out to contest the position of the president of Nigeria,’’ he said.

Continuing, he said, ‘’you know me and you know how Nigeria is today. In 2019, I went with Atiku as the vice-presidential candidate, but today I want to come out on my own.

‘’I just came to seek your blessings as the traditional rulers of the state,’’ he added.

Obi who was at the helms of affairs in Anambra State from 2006 to 2013 said “Nigeria needs me” because of the many challenges plaguing the country. He also promised to uphold a united Nigeria.

‘’if I am voted as president, I will secure Nigeria, create jobs for the teeming youths of the country and pull Nigeria out of poverty.

‘’I want to move this country forward, I am a Nigerian, I believe in one united Nigeria. I want it secured,’’ he said.
