24 HOURS AFTER APPOINTMENT: Umahi’s brother rejects Buhari’s offer as RMAFC Secretary

Says post below his social standing

Augustine Chukwu Umahi, the younger brother of Ebonyi State Governor, Dave Umahi, has declined to serve as the Secretary of the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission under President Muhammadu Buhari.

The governor’s brother claimed in a statement in Abakaliki on Thursday that the appointment was not appropriate for someone of his social standing but rather for job seekers or retired civil servants.

He stated that the position was still open and that anyone interested should get in touch with the governor.

“Let me express my sincere gratitude to each and every one of you for your congratulations and the numerous calls you made in support of my appointment as the RAMFC Secretary.

“I am truly humbled by this display of love, but I regret to inform you that I declined the position because it is best suited for job seekers, retired civil servants, or anyone who loves their work, and secondly, because I am confident that, at my age and level of experience, there is no question that I know what I want out of life.

“As far as I’m concerned, the position is still open, so if you’re interested, please don’t hesitate to contact our unflappable Governor to take the necessary action. Gratitude and blessings, the younger Umahi said.”

President Muhammadu Buhari had on Wednesday approved the appointment of Augustine Chukwu Umahi, as the RMAFC Secretary.

Tijani Yahaya Kaura was also appointed as the Managing Director of the Gas & Oil Free Zone Authority.

Director, Information, Willie Bassey, Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, conveyed this in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja.

President Buhari also approved the renewal of the appointment of Captain Junaid Abdullahi, as Executive Secretary, Border Communities Development Agency.

According to the statement the appointment of Umahi as RMAFC Secretary effective from July 6, 2022, was for an initial term of four years while that of Gas and Oil Free Zone Authority, Managing Director, Yahaya Kaura is for an initial term of three years effective from 18th July 18, 2022.

Also, Junaid Abdullahi was reappointed as the Executive Secretary, BCDA, for a final term of four years with effect from September 22, 2022.

“The President congratulates all the appointees and urges them to bring their wealth of experience to bear on their appointments,” Bassey said.

Austin had withdrawn from the race to succeed Governor Umahi after becoming the APC’s senatorial candidate for Ebonyi South.

Governor Umahi was forced to file a lawsuit against INEC after the commission rejected his candidacy. The court did agree that INEC was correct to refuse to publish his name as the party’s candidate because the second primary he won did not adhere to the electoral act’s requirements.

The court has mandated a new primary election within 14 days.
