A not-for-profit organisation, Generation Initiative for Women and Youth Network, has said 25 per cent of pregnant women in Nigeria are facing the problem of Postpartum Hemorrhage from uterine agony, which occurs after childbirth with the loss of more than 500ml blood flow within the first 24 hours.
Speaking at a two day workshop, tagged “Using advocacy strategies to improve national guidelines that support healthy markets for misoprostol use for postpartum hemorrhage,” the Chairperson and Founder of GIWYN, Mrs. Sybil Nmezi, said the health condition sometimes resulted in severe blood flow, which could be greater or equal to 100ml that might result in the death of such patients after two hours, if not controlled.
Nmezi noted that government should adopt international system and service innovations in order to implement solutions that save women’s lives and improve their health, especially in the areas of health technologies, maternal health, child health, reproductive health, vaccines and immunisation, emerging and epidemic diseases, such as HIV, malaria, and tuberculosis.
