The National Youth Service Corps has extended the service periods of three Corps members as 1,050 others in the 2020 Batch ‘A’ and ‘B’ service year passed out in Sokoto State.

Muhammad Nakamba, NYSC Coordinator in Sokoto State, told the News Agency of Nigeria on Thursday, that the Corps members were penalized for various offences.

Nakamba, who spoke through the scheme’s Public Relations Officer, Malam Sani Idris, said that the sanctions were for abscondment and others.

The punishment, he said, would serve as deterrent to others.

He added that of the 1,050 corps members who served in the state, two obtained the prestigious Sultan of Sokoto award for outstanding performance.

Commendation letters would be issued to deserving corps members, as the awards were designed to appreciate those who performed excellently during the service year.

The coordinator urged the outgoing corps members to utilise the skills acquired during the vocational training judiciously.

“Try to be good ambassadors of this country and your family; you should ensure that you associate with people of good character.

“The vocational training you were exposed to during your orientation programme is enough to make you excel without wondering about the saturated labour market,” he said.

He thanked Governor Aminu Tambuwal, the Sultanate Council, the NYSC state board and other stakeholders for their support.

“NYSC will remain grateful to Governor Tambuwal for taking the welfare of Corps members posted to the state as a priority,” added.

He said that another set of 1,400 Corps members were expected in the state for the 2021 Batch C, adding that registration had commenced and swearing in had been scheduled for October 26, 2021.
