4 dead, 5 injured in auto crash on 3rd Mainland Bridge

Four people have been feared dead with five others injured on Sunday, on the Third Mainland Bridge, in Lagos.

The accident occurred at about 5:50am at the Adekunle Inter-change end of the bridge around Iyana-Oworo.

It was gathered that the incident occurred as the tyre of a Toyota Hiace bus with number plate, LAGOS FST 241 YC (grey colour), which was on full throttle from Adekunle inter-change, burst causing it to capsize.

It was learnt that 20 occupants (nine males and 11 females) were on board when the incident occurred.

Five of the occupants were said to have sustained injuries while three female adults reportedly died on the spot.

The Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps, Olusegun Ogungbemide, said that the crashed vehicle had been towed away from the scene.

Ogungbemide said that security men, including officials of the FRSC, Police, Lagos State Transport Management Authority and Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, came for rescue operation at the scene.

The bodies of the rescued victims were deposited at the General Hospital, Marina.

Another female victim, brought from the accident scene, reportedly died at the hospital.

The Sector Commander advised motorists to be mindful of the status of their tyres and avoid excessive speed.
