Four persons were feared killed in the early hours of Tuesday as security agents repelled an attack by unknown gunmen on the office of the Nigerian Drug Law Enforcement Agency at Ntezi in Íshíelu Local Government Area of the state.

The gunmen reportedly swooped on the NDLEA office around 2pm.

It was gathered that the attackers scaled the perimeter fence of the facility but were repelled by officials of the agency, including soldiers and police operatives.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Ebonyi State Command, Loveth Odah, who confirmed the incident, said that the security agents killed two of the gunmen while others escaped with injuries.

“Unfortunately, one of the officers and a patient undergoing rehabilitation at the agency’s rehabilitation center was also killed,” she said.

Odah said that security agents were still combing the surrounding bush in search of the injured gunmen.

According to the PPRO, two riffles and other ammunition were recovered from the attackers.

Other recovered items include 140 rounds of K2 ammunition, 36 rounds of GPMG live ammunition, 30 rounds of AK 47 rounds of ammunition, a 4-Runner jeep, motorcycles, military and police uniforms, charms etc.

It will be recalled that the agency lost two of its officers along the Abakaliki-Enugu highway on February 20.
