After about five weeks of experiencing symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder, a 93-year-old woman, (name withheld) that was raped by a strange young man and injured in the process has died.
The Point had exclusively reported how the nonagenarian was raped in May, this year by a man suspected to be ritualist.
The victim was living at her apartment at Service Area in Osogbo, capital of Osun State when a male youth broke into her room and reportedly raped her.
The Point had gathered that the unknown young man injected a fetish substance into the private part of the 93-year-old great grandmother after the act.
Some of the residents of the area had expressed shock following the bizarre incident, suspecting that the rapist would have carried out the ungodly act for money ritual purposes.
Many had wondered what could have warranted the young man, said to be at large, to have sexually abused an old woman.
The Point gathered that the nonagenarian woman was the only person at home when the man barged into her room in broad daylight, gagged her and forced her to bed.
Some of the neighbours of the victim were said to have heard her screaming while the suspect was escaping after the act.
Narrating her ordeals to one of her children, the woman had disclosed that the invader had beaten her severely and rendered her very weak before raping her.
She showed the injuries she suffered as a result of the violent acts of the suspect.
“Mama said the person pushed her to the floor immediately he came into her room. She said he started beating her and later removed his manhood and forced it into her private part.
“We are suspecting that the act is connected with these young boys that are into ritual money because there is a herbalist that stays close to Mama’s house, he might be responsible for the act,” one of her children had explained to The Point after the sad incident occurred.
Through the support of a human rights activist, Citizen Lola Wey, the victim had been taken to the Police Clinic in Osogbo for treatment and Wey had made several efforts to avail the traumatized woman to psychotherapy services owing to the intense emotional reactions such as severe anxiety she was manifesting after the act.
Meanwhile, over a month after the alleged rape occurred, the Osun State Police Command had yet to arrest the fleeing suspect after the victim’s family reported the matter at Dada Estate Police Station.
One of the children of the deceased while confirming her death told The Point that the police were blaming the family for the act and had refused to work on arresting the culprit.
She disclosed that the aged woman died on Monday, July 8, 2024 and that before then, the victim had been experiencing severe pain in one of her eyes owing to the beating she received from her attacker.
“Yes, mama died this (Monday) morning. She has not recovered ever since her ordeals. When we took her to the hospital, doctors told us that her blood pressure had been rising and she was also having serious pain in one of her eyes because the rapist hit her there while forcing himself on her.
“Drugs have been prescribed for us and we have started giving her. We slept together but she didn’t wake up the next day. The painful thing is that the police have not done anything meaningful in arresting the rapist. We are not happy about this,” a daughter of the deceased lamented while sobbing.
The Point gathered that the remains of the deceased had been deposited at a morgue in Osogbo.
